Friday, May 10: Civil Rights Movement (Cont'd)

Jim Crow South
Student Objective: Explain actions taken by people to expand economic and political rights, including those for . . . ethnic minorities in the US.

1.  If you haven't submitted "Background To The Civil Rights Movement" do so now.  The form is on yesterday's post.

2. The purpose of yesterday's assignment was to remind you that the US Constitution had 3 amendments in place to lawfully protect African Americans, yet those amendments were blatantly ignored throughout the first half of the 20th century.  Read the selection, "The State Of Black America in 1960" to learn about specific ways in which the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments were ignored.

3. For the next phase of our studies of the Civil Rights Movement you will be working with a partner.
  • Choose your partner
  • One of you open this document, make a copy of it, and place it in your Civil Rights unit folder.
  • Share the document with your partner so he/she can edit it.
  • Make sure both of your names are on the document in the font color you are using for your share of the answers.
  • Work together to complete this assignment.  There is a lot of THINKING in this assignment-- not necessarily "right or wrong" answers.  You will be graded on the depth of your critical thinking skills.
  • The directions for completing the assignment are on the document, itself.
