Monday, April 16: Attack on Pearl Harbor

Student Objective: Identify reasons for US involvement in WWII, including Italian, German, and Japanese dictatorships and their aggression, especially the attack on Pearl Harbor

1. Friday you all worked on the map, "Hitler's Aggressions".  Just hold on to that map because we will be adding to it as we work through the unit.  However, it should be completed!

2. Thinking about the map and the policy of appeasement, click here to go to Google Moderator.  Answer the question that is posted.  Make sure your answer includes an explanation!  Include your first name, last initial and class period at the end of your response.

3. Read pp.  446-447 in your textbook, "The US Enters WWII".  Then watch this video that allows you to hear audio as the attacks are being reported.

4. Now you are going to write an informative article as if you were a newspaper reporter at the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.  Create a new document and give it an interesting title (to capture the reader's attention).  Your article must include the following information:

• The "who, what, when , why and where" of the event
• a quote from a military or political figure regarding the event (this can be made up but needs to be based on fact-- from what you learn in your reading and/or watching the video)
• background information as to what led to the event
• foreshadowing as to what this event will likely mean for the United States (remember, we didn't enter the war on the day of the attack!)
• include a picture of the event

  This article is due TOMORROW at the beginning of class.  I will post the form tomorrow.

5. If time remains you may work on the map from Friday if you did not finish it.
